The Big Easy

That's right, while the Centipede was home in the US he went on a little trip. OK, not a little trip, he drove down most of the length of the Mississippi to New Orleans. It was a long drive, but there was a lot of neat stuff to see along the way, especially in the Big Easy.

Anyway, here are a few pics I took while I was there. People who've been to New Orleans will recognize these as being taken on Bourbon Street, the premier spot in the city for tourists to get drunk on hand grenades (a local drink I'm pretty sure that's made with Everclear), get drunk on beer, and buy somewhat overpriced souvenirs.

While drunk.

The funny thing, tho, is that it didn't feel much like other tourist traps do. It was nice. The people were cool, the food was good and only modestly overpriced - all in all a great time. Maybe that's why my ex-roommate from college has lived there for so long. Louisiana is a nice state, and the openness and friendliness there was so nice, and it's all in a non-in your face, non-irritating, non-scary way. Heck, even the bums there seemed friendly and at least 30% less likely to stab you than where I'm from.

BTW it was really cool seeing him (my roomie) after so long. He also recommends you go eat at Elizabeth's, well or at least he recommended it to me and I'm repeating the info here. Best mashed potatoes I've ever had, period, and the food and drink selection overall is fantastic. Here's a map there, if you're interested. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Oh, and do as the sign says and drink Regal beer!! Or some other beer will work, too.
