Japan cm of the week - Puyopuyo Tetris plus a little Atsuko Maeda
This week's commercial is a bit of an oddball, or should I say odd block? Odd blob?
This ad is from Sega and it's for their new game, Puyo Tetris. It is (obviously) a mix up of blob-breaking game Puyo Puyo with the ultimate classic Tetris. Not quite sure how it works really but the game launches this week in Japan on the Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.
I like this ad because it's quirky and cute, and it also has two of my favorite personalities - pop idol turned actress Atsuko Maeda (of AKB48 fame) and Kishidan (氣志團) lead singer Show Ayanocozey (綾小路翔).
For anyone unfamiliar with Kishidan, they are an oddball punkish rock group that made it big in the early 2000's and are best known for wearing gakuran (male high school uniforms) and shades, with big pompadour hairdos like biker gang members. They're actually a lot smarter than their image would suggest, and recently Ayanocozey has done a lot of appearances as a smart guy/cool rocker.
I saw them live at Summer Sonic many years ago and they totally kicked ass and IMO were the highlight of the show. And it was very cool because I was literally standing right at the edge of the stage in the mosh pit. I also can proudly say I was hit in the face by a massive gob of sweat that flew off of Ayanocozey's arm as he was singing and gesturing at the crowd. I still have a souvenir towel of theirs I got after the show.
If you want to see more of Atsuko Maeda, check out the Atsuko Maeda Official Website or the English fan site Acchan48.
For more of Ayanocozey and Kishidan, you need to watch their first big hit One Night Carnival. Or just head on over to Kishidan.com.
