Ueno street shots (GXR A12 50mm)
Remember this scene? This is right outside Ueno Station's central exit. I started (trying) to be a real photographer right here with my Ricoh GRD III. Now, of course I've long since switched to a camera with a much bigger sensor, which enables much better night pics. So here I am back in Ueno for the millionth time, taking some street shots at night. I hope you enjoy.
I like the odd synch between the guy shopping and the dudes on the posters around him.
Walk back into Ameyoko and you'll find a million little izakayas, and at night many eateries spilling out into the streets. Especially on a Friday, this is a place where salarymen go to wind down after a long week.
Of course for some even a few drinks won't stop the business week. I was a bit tipsy at the time of this pic of course, but I think it's funny that I caught the guy standing straight up - it's just the world around him that's tilted. Wait, maybe not...
Let me finish with a B&W street photo. I personally prefer color, but Ricoh has always been good at producing a certain special grain with its black and white photos. I know people with a GXR like the one I'm using here who only shoot in B&W, and I can appreciate the decision.
As always, click on pictures to bring up my Flickr stream, or click here to go into a special slideshow-style view.
All pics taken here with my GXR using the A12 50mm lens.
A nice post, very good night photography. I noticed the photos are all taken at iso 400. Do you use that as an upper limit? I wonder what settings are you using on the A12 50mm?
ReplyDeleteThanks, I think these turned out pretty well. The GXR functions pretty well up to ISO 1600, and even 3200 isn't terrible but you do start to get noise around 800. It's not bad but of course I try to keep the ISO as low as I can. I generally speaking use the A16 most of the time because I think the pics are just a bit better than the A12 50, but I pull out the 50 if I know I need the bokeh or it's going to be really dark, or I need to keep the weight down. I also always shoot in M mode, and setting the WB to auto works best, but occasionally on cloudy days the GXR messes up the colors, so I have to set it manually. Same goes for indoors under really bad fluorescent lights. Anything else you want to know about?
