Hong Kong by day (GXR A16)

For a good walking tour of Hong Kong, I recommend exiting Central Station, (exit D1) and head north till you get to Queen's Road, walk West from there and when you have a chance, take the stairs up and up, and you can see a lot. If you plan it right you can hike through a maze of antique and curio shops and end up just in time to get a beer in the Soho district (best to find a happy hour, otherwise it can get costly).

Of course a trip to HK isn't complete without a ride on the Star Ferry.

Then when you get out on the Kowloon side, head up Nathan street to the infamous Chungking Mansions.

Wait... something's wrong with this picture:

It looks like they gave the mansions a new sheen of paint. Fuck. It was never a nice looking building but it at least had character. Now on the outside at least it looks like nothing - another big apartment block with shops on the first few floors. And it doesn't even look like a standard Hong Kong apartment block either; it's like it turned into some finance building in downtown Minneapolis.

But how about inside? How is it now?

Whew, that was a close one. Yes, there is a pretty set of boutiques right in the entryway, but go in just a little deeper and you find the same maze of curry restaurants, tailors, money changers, and who knows what inside. At least some things never change.

This last pic is new for me, tho. Just when you thought they'd built enough mammoth buildings in Hong Kong they go and make this monstrosity. Looks like a piece of a Halo set fell off and spiked into the city.

If you like these pics you might want to check here or for more stuff I saw in Hong Kong look here or here.
