Kashiwa pics - KFC stairs and ramen - GXR A16

Welcome all. For people new to the blog first I'd like to say thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something interesting here. Six Days in Chiba is a blog about life in Japan. I talk about Japanese culture, movies, anime, politics and crazy shit that strikes my fancy.

It is also kind of a photography blog. I am a big hiking freak and like to hop in and around the Tokyo area with my trusty Ricoh GXR, taking pics of interesting stuff I see. No, I am by no means a pro and I'm sure a lot of my readers could offer advice about photography (that I'd be happy to hear), but as they say practice makes perfect, so I snap off shots willy nilly in the hopes of finding a gem or two.

Today I had a chance to bum around in my old stomping grounds - Kashiwa. It's a small (by Japan standards) suburb of Tokyo in northwest Chiba. I only lived here for 3 years, but for me it has always felt like my home away from home in Japan.

Walking around Kashiwa, you see a lot of interesting stuff. There are tons of little ramen shops, izakayas, restaurants and bars. It's not quite as laid back as areas farther out in Chiba, but also not as much of a pit as the whole Matsudo/Kita Senju area. 30% fewer pimps and hookers but also 30% less cool stuff to do.

But there is always something interesting to see, like a trio of Colonel Sanders(es) above a supermarket for no apparent reason.

So stop back from time to time, check out my posts, and leave comments if you like. I post Japanese commercials once a week and info about Japanese news as well. Feel free to link to any pictures you see on my site. And if you want to show your support, click on one or two of the ads. Please.

OK enough for now. I hope you enjoy what you see.
