Panasonic for the win (maybe)

Here's a video comparison of the Panasonic G3 to the Samsung NX11 (click the links to see tech details), two similar cameras competing in the sub-SLR range.

Anyway, I had a chance to try out a G3, along with its smaller cousin, the GF3 last night at a camera shop in Shinjuku.

And I have to say I'm impressed with both. The G3 is a nice piece of equipment, easy to hold, easy to use, and it seemed to have a snappy response and good, easy to use manual controls.

The GF3 was also very nice. Yes, it doesn't have the built-in viewfinder of the G3, but it passed the one test I thought it would fail at: easy to use in manual mode. While it lacks the buttons and viewfinder of the G3, it's incredibly small - a lot smaller with the 14mm pancake lens on it than my GXR (both with an equiv range of 28mm). The GF3's somewhat odd rubbery design also makes it a lot easier to hold on to IMO than some other tiny high end cameras like the Sony NEX line.

Anyway, good on Panasonic for making real upgrades to their high and low end micro four-thirds cams.
