3DS vs NDS - and the winner is...

The iPod Touch.

Well, among kids that is.

So the 3DS is coming out and it's gonna be $250. It looks cool, and I like the idea of a glasses-less 3D gaming system. I played Street Fighter 4 in 3D in Taiwan on a computer screen that didn't need the glasses and it was really cool.

The NDS (or PSP2, or whataver they call it) has a quad-core processor, dual analogs, and more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at. I mean, it's got a touch pad area across the entire back, for crying out loud. All cool and fun, but I'm guessing (and basically Sony has confirmed) that it's going to be at least fairly expensive.

So what about the kids? Will you buy a $250 portable for your 10 year old? How about if you have 2 or 3 munchkins running around? It seems to me that both Nintendo and Sony have now officially written off the younger players completely.

In fact, any more if you want a brand new gaming system for your kid, the cheapest bet may be the iPod Touch (which can be had for about $200), which not only features cheapo game downloads, but they are also very simple to play, usually.

Or stick with the DS and its huge library of games you can get for cheap.
